DAWSON -- Virgil Russell Peterson, 88, of Dawson, died Saturday at the Johnson Memorial Hospital in Dawson.
The service will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the Providence Valley Lutheran Church in rural Dawson with burial in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. today at the Hanson and Dahl Funeral Home with a prayer service at 6 p.m.
He was born Jan. 27, 1920, on the family farm in Lac Qui Parle County to John Julius and Minnie Peterson. He completed country school and worked on the farm.
He married Delores Hill on Nov. 28, 1943. He farmed in the rural Dawson area until he retired in 1982. He was a member of Providence Valley Lutheran Church, as well as the Senior Citizen's Club in Dawson. He moved into Johnson Memorial Care Center in 2006.
He is survived by his children: Dianne (and Harlan) Graphenteen of South Haven, Darlene Storlien of Marshall and David of Dawson; six grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife in 1955, two newborn children, three brothers and two sisters.
