Virginia Mae Rooney

BENSON -- Virginia Mae Rooney, 71, of Benson, died Sunday at Swift County Benson Hospital.
The service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Francis Catholic Church in Benson. Burial will be in Appleton City Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 pm Tuesday, at St. Francis Catholic Church with a rosary at 4:30 p.m. and a parish prayer service at 6:30 p.m. and for one hour prior to the service. Arrangements are with the Zniewski Funeral Home in Benson.
She was born July 7, 1935, in Appleton, to Steven and Virginia (Konieczny) Kashmark. She graduated from Appleton High School in 1953 and studied nursing at College of St. Catherine in St. Paul. She worked as a dental assistant for Dr. David Miller in Appleton.
She married Michael Rooney on June 28, 1958 and they lived in Benson until her death. She worked as a nursing assistant at Swift County-Benson Hospital. She was a past president of the Minnesota Arc, was active in the Minnesota Multiple Sclerosis Society, served as bard cairman for Swift County Homes and was a member of Minnesota Citizens Concerned for Life.
She is survived by her husband; children: Theresa (and Simon Wong) Rooney of Seattle, Wash., Robert (and Lori) Rooney of Benson, Marie Rooney of Minneapolis, Ann (and Paul) Kolden of Morris, Thomas Rooney of Shakopee, and James Rooney of Benson; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Alicia Woodford of Montevideo, Dianne Schliep of Spring Lake Park, and Kathleen Stensrud of Madison.
She was preceded in death by four brothers.
