Volleyball: BOLD clinches at least a tie for WC South crown

BENSON -- BOLD won a thrilling match with Benson Thursday night to clinch a share of the West Central South volleyball title.

The former member of the Two Twelve Conference rallied to win 17-25, 25-23, 21-25, 25-21 and 15-13.

"It was an excellent match by both teams with great digging and hitting," said Benson coach Erick Hedman.

BOLD seemed to take control with a 7-0 run in the fifth game. Benson battled back to pull within a point of the lead, but Breanna Keltgen served out for BOLD.

BOLD improved to 9-0 in the conference while Benson dropped to 6-3 in the WCS.

The Warriors' attack line was led by Leah Miller with 19 kills and Megan Novotny with 12. Miller also had three ace blocks. Setter Rachel Marks delivered three ace serves, 43 assists plus 15 digs on defense.

Benson enjoyed balanced offense led by Emily Jensen with 19 kills, followed by Kelly Jepma with 13, Annie Ecklund 12 and Jessica Ascheman 10. Jenny Flaten made 26 digs.

The Eagles (3-6, 6-9) jumped ahead of the Tigers (3-7, 5-11) in the West Central South standings.

Mindy Clark's 11 kills, six ace blocks and six ace serves led Lac qui Parle Valley. Katie Schlieman followed with five ace serves, Kayla Rheingans had nine kills and Amber Moen recorded 21 set assists.

Jasmine Henrich had six kills for Morris, Dani Kloos added three ace blocks, Jodee Dittbenner had eight digs and Sarah Burke notched 16 assists.

Behind an offensive attack, led by Kristina Kietzmann's 11 kills and Kayla Aus' six ace serves, Yellow Medicine East (10-4-1) improved to 6-3 in the conference.

The Sting got four kills each from Audrey Formo, Macy McKay and Jamie Baker. Formo also had five aces at the service line, while Kietzmann notched three ace blocks.
