Volleyball: YME stays hot, sinks Montevideo in 4 games

GRANITE FALLS -- Yellow Medicine East picked up the pace in the final two games to keep up with a logjam for second place in the West Central South with a 25-21, 28-26, 25-18, 25-14 win over Montevideo Tuesday.

The win keeps the Sting (3-2, 7-2-1) two games behind BOLD, which beat Morris to stay undefeated in the loop.

"We did a better job of matching side outs with them and finding holes to score," said YME coach Kirsten Tjosaas. "We didn't let them run off a lot of points in a row."

YME, which won its sixth straight match, excluding a tie in a weekend tournament, picked up its serving and finished with 29 aces, led by Kayla Aus and Audrey Formo with seven each. Formo had 14 kills and Aus added 16 digs. Mallory McKay had 24 set assists and Jamie Baker had four ace blocks.

Brook Moseng's 12 kills paced the Thunder Hawks. Dani Jensen served three aces, had 22 assists and four ace blocks. Rikka Boike added 12 digs and had four ace blocks.

The Lakers, coming off a third-place finish in their own invitational this past Saturday, continued to show improvement after an 0-10 start, winning for the fourth time in five matches.

Laura Tvrdik pounded down 18 kills and aced three blocks and three serves to lead the Lakers. Ashley Chan had four ace serves, five kills and two ace blocks. Shannon Bosek also had five kills.
