Volunteers sought to help remove sandbags
Lutheran Social Service of Minnesota is calling on volunteers statewide to help flood-weary residents in the Fargo-Moorhead area remove more than 1 million sandbags on April 25 and May 2.
"These folks have been through a great deal of trauma and are exhausted," said Cindy Johnson, director of disaster services, in a news release Thursday. "Volunteers are urgently needed now to help our good neighbors in the Red River Valley."
Volunteers driving by car are asked to meet at the Wal-Mart in Dilworth, located at 1711 Center Ave. W., and take a shuttle that will be provided to the VFW in Moorhead where they will register. Volunteers coming by bus should go directly to the VFW to register volunteers at 2201 First Ave. N. in Moorhead.
Volunteers are encouraged to bring gloves, preferably rubber gloves, and dress appropriately for the weather.
