"These folks have been through a great deal of trauma and are exhausted," said Cindy Johnson, director of disaster services, in a news release Thursday. "Volunteers are urgently needed now to help our good neighbors in the Red River Valley."

Volunteers driving by car are asked to meet at the Wal-Mart in Dilworth, located at 1711 Center Ave. W., and take a shuttle that will be provided to the VFW in Moorhead where they will register. Volunteers coming by bus should go directly to the VFW to register volunteers at 2201 First Ave. N. in Moorhead.

Volunteers are encouraged to bring gloves, preferably rubber gloves, and dress appropriately for the weather.

Donations for LSS disaster relief may be made online at www.lssmn.org or by mailing a check to Lutheran Social Service of Minnesota, 2485 Como Ave., St. Paul, MN 55108. Please designate the check to Disaster Response.

LSS of Minnesota provides clean-up, long-term recovery and special support to children in communities affected by natural disasters.
