The Sioux Falls City Council is to consider the license requests in that city on Jan. 19.

In Pierre, the City Commission has approved a beer and wine license for Walgreens. The store still needs the approval of the state Department of Revenue.

Walgreens spokesman Robert Elfinger says the company is responding to customer demand. He says the company has been applying for liquor licenses nationwide since the middle of last year and plans on having most of its more than 7,100 stores carry alcohol.
