Wallace Lindquist Jan. 11, 1922 - March 20, 2013
WILLMAR - Wallace Lindquist, age 91, of Willmar and formerly of Olivia, died Wednesday, March 20, 2013 at Bethesda Pleasantview Nursing Home in Willmar. Funeral services are Monday, March 25th at 1:00 p.m. at Cross Of Calvary Lutheran Church in Olivia with Rev. Matt Hausken officiating. Burial is in the Olivia Cemetery. Visitation is Sunday 4-6 p.m. at Dirks-Blem Funeral Home in Olivia and continues Monday at the church for one hour prior to the service.
Wallace Earl Lindquist was born January 11, 1922 at the family home at Blomkest, MN to Frederick and Kathryn (Zobel) Lindquist. He attended District #64 School at Blomkest and then worked for several farmers in the area. Wally married Idamay Olson on January 22, 1943 and they raised three children. Wally served his country in the U.S. Army during WWll entering in the fall of 1943. He had trained in England until the June 6, 1944 invasion of France where he went in at Omaha Beach. Wally then continued further into France where he was injured. Wally was flown to England and returned to the U.S. on a hospital ship, later being discharged at Fort Snelling. Upon returning to Renville County area he worked as a foreman for Bird Island Dehydrators until 1951 when he started farming in Norfolk Township. Idamay died in 1963. On August 20, 1966 he married Myra (Koenig) Moje and Wally added three children to his family. Wally and Myra had enjoyed over 20 years of spending winters in Arizona. Wally retired in 1987 but continued to help his son farm for many more years. In 2003 Wally and Myra moved to Willmar and he has resided at Bethesda Pleasantview since July 6, 2011. Wally had been a long time member of Cross Of Calvary Lutheran Church and was also a member of the Olivia VFW and American Legion. He had enjoyed hunting, fishing, reading and listening to any and every sporting events. He especially loved spending time with his grandchildren.
Wally is survived by his wife Myra Lindquist of Willmar, his family: Cheryl Victorino (and special friend Bob Ciari), David (and Sue) Lindquist, Carol (and Jim) Dennesen, Steve Moje, and Mary (and Jeff) Skaalerud; his 12 grandchildren; his 15 great-grandchildren; and his sisters: Deloris Abraham and Alice Decker. Wally was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife Idamay Lindquist; his daughter Lorna Bye; his infant son; his sisters: Hazel Hanson, Myrtle Kemnitz, Florence Shanahan, and Lorraine Folkerts; and his brothers: Orville Lindquist, Marvin Lindquist and Ervin Lindquist.
