Wally Steenson Dec. 23, 1931 - Sept. 28, 2009

MONTEVIDEO -- Wallace "Wally" Gerald Steenson, 77, of Montevideo, died Sept. 28 at the VA Medical Center in Minneapolis.

The service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Anderson Funeral Home in Montevideo.

He was born Dec. 23, 1931, in Lac qui Parle County to Clarence and Ella (Falla) Steenson. He grew up in Lac qui Parle County and graduated from Clarkfield High School in 1949. He served in the Navy during the Korean War with Patrol Squadron Eight, an anti-submarine unit based at Naval Air Station Quonset Point, R.I.

After his discharge, he attended Northrup Aeronautical Institute in Inglewood, Calif., finishing in 1956. He worked as an aeronautical engineer in California prior to returning to Minnesota. He worked at Prairie 5 in Montevideo for about 15 years before his retirement. He was a member of VFW Post 380 in Montevideo and was living at Brookside Manor in Montevideo at the time of his death.

He is survived by his siblings: Elaine (and John) Zink of Omaha, Neb., Joan (and Richard) Hineline of Blair, Neb., and DeLos (and Nancy) Steenson of Wayzata; and a half-sister: Clarice (and Jim) Preston of Washington, D.C.
