SACRED HEART - Walter “Wally” Gordon Hagen, age 62, of Sacred Heart, died Wednesday, December 12, 2012, at Rice Hospital in Willmar, Minnesota. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday at 11:00 a.m. at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Renville. The Rev. Steve Verhelst will be the celebrant. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery in Renville. Visitation will be Sunday from 5-7 p.m. at the Dirks-Blem Funeral Home in Renville, Minnesota. Visitation continues on Monday one hour prior to the services at the church in Renville.

Walter “Wally” Gordon Hagen was born on March 14, 1950, in Granite Falls, Minnesota to Lyle A. and Grace H. (Schneiderman) Hagen. He grew up on the family farm north of Sacred Heart, Minnesota and graduated from Sacred Heart High School in 1968. Wally served his country in the Minnesota National Guard. He was united in marriage to Diane Peterson on August 11, 1973, at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Renville. They made their home on the Hagen family farm and Wally farmed for many years. He also worked at Johnson Seed Farm and a rural mail carrier in Sacred Heart for the past 12 years. He was a member of Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Renville and was a member of the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed gardening, vacations to Disney World with his family, spending time at the lake, and taking his grandchildren on gator rides. He was a loving, caring, and unselfish husband, father, and grandfather.

Survivors include his wife Diane, his three daughters: Laurie (and Eric) Strey of Carver, MN, Meridith (and Bryan) Wulf of Chaska, MN, and Krista (and Shane) Peterson of Audubon, MN; his five grandsons: Gavin, Owen, Landen, Sam, and Grady; his brothers and sister: Les (and Jodi) Hagen of Renville, Roger (and Gina) Hagen of Renville, and Wendy (and Frank) Fischer of Renville; his mother-in-law Irene Peterson of Sacred Heart, and many nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother David, his nephew Shawn, and his father-in-law Myron Peterson.
