Walter Holien Oct. 24, 1919 - Aug. 31, 2008
GRANITE FALLS - Walter Holien, 88, of Granite Falls died Sunday at the Granite Falls Manor.
The service is at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Wang Lutheran Church in rural Maynard.
Visitation is at the church for one hour before the service. Arrangements are with the Wing-Bain Funeral Home of Granite Falls.
He was born Oct. 24, 1919, on the family farm in Wang Township, rural Maynard, to Christ and Clara (Lerohl) Holien. He attended rural school.
In 1942, he joined the U.S. Army Air Corps, serving in Iceland in the control tower with the British Royal Air Force. After the war he returned to farm the family farm near Maynard.
On June 7, 1953, he married Donna Browne in St. Louis Park. He was active in Wang Lutheran Church, the American Legion and the Masons.
He is survived by his wife; two daughters: Mary Holien-Wig (and Byron Wig) of Elko and Claire (and Glenn) Woelfel of Dassel; a son: Christopher (and Patty) Holien of Houston; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by three sisters and one brother.
