Walter Olson Sept. 6, 1920 - Dec. 27, 2008
MONTEVIDEO -- Walter Olson, 88, of Montevideo died Saturday at the Chippewa County-Montevideo Hospital.
The service will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Watson Lutheran Church.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. today at the Wing-Bain Funeral Home in Montevideo and for one hour prior to the service at the church.
He was born Sept. 6, 1920, in Westbank Township, Swift County, to Martin and Clara (Snelling) Olson. He grew up in Westbank Township, attending country school in the Big Bend area. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II receiving his honorable discharge in 1945.
He married Mardelle Miller on Feb. 25, 1949, in Watson. They lived in the Watson area and he farmed and worked for the city of Watson. Mardelle died in 1996.
He married Arlys DeVries on Nov. 14, 1998, in Watson. They lived in Montevideo.
He was a member of the Montevideo Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion and Watson Lutheran Church.
He is survived by his wife; children: Brenda (and Dave) Jones of Montevideo, Rodney (and Joy) Olson of Milan, Loran (and Diana) Olson of Mesa, Ariz., and Brian (and Teresa) Olson of Milan; 12 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren; stepchildren: Cindy (and Jeff) Burgess of Starbuck, Connie Eggers (and special friend Greg Rude) of Montevideo, Jan Devries of Montevideo; five stepgrandchildren and five stepgreat-grandchildren; siblings: Victor Olson of Little Falls, Vivian Grinager of Dawson and Myrtle Thompson of Appleton.
He was preceded in death by his first wife: Mardelle; two sisters; and two brothers.
