Warm the Children campaign comes in short of $40K goal

Email

WILLMAR — The 2012 Warm the Children campaign took in $36,795.41, falling short of its goal of $40,000.

At 92 percent of goal, the funds will still cover the shopping trips for an estimated 450 children across the region. With a few purchase orders still out and a few shopping trips yet to be completed, the campaign organizers said the total number of children served should come in at 450 children or more.

One-hundred percent of all donations received through the Warm the Children campaign go out to help the children. Now in its 18th year, the Warm the Children campaign has helped more than 6,900 children from more than 2,530 families over the past 18 years.

The program is administered through the West Central Tribune, in partnership with Main Street Willmar, with assistance from area social service agencies and schools making referrals. The families are then taken shopping in order to purchase warm winter clothing for the children. Each child is allowed an estimated $80 in purchases.

A total of 500 donations have been received during the 2012 campaign to date.
