Warm weather coming to an end Thursday

WILLMAR -- Willmar had reached the forecast high of 61 degrees mid-afternoon, according to the National Weather Service's report of the current conditions at the Willmar airport.

The balmy temperatures one day before Thanksgiving were welcomed by shoppers preparing for the big day, or homeowners fitting in a few last-minute tasks to prepare their houses for winter.

The Weather Service says the warm weather will come to an end, however, as a strong cold front pushes through the region Thursday. Temperatures will start out mild in the morning but then fall throughout the day.

The Thanksgiving Day forecast for Willmar is a high of 47 by 11 a.m., but then falling to around 35 the rest of the day. There is also chance of rain mixed with snow.

Northwest winds will increase during the afternoon and evening, with higher gusts possible.

Temperatures Thursday night will drop below freezing, the Weather Service says, which could lead to a few slick spots on some of the roadways, so use extra caution while driving.
