Warren Aaberg Oct. 2, 1923 - Aug. 2, 2009
STARBUCK -- Warren Otis Aaberg, 85, of Starbuck, died Sunday at home.
The service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Minnewaska Lutheran Church in Starbuck. Burial will be at the Minnewaska Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today at Starbuck Funeral Home, with a prayer service at 6:30 p.m., and for one hour prior to the service at the church.
He was born Oct. 2, 1923, in Starbuck to Hans and Clara (Dokken) Aaberg. He attended country school near Starbuck and Benson. When he was 15, he started driving truck for his brother Harris. He enlisted in the Navy in 1942 and served on cruisers and submarines in the South Pacific.
He married Eleanor Simpson on Nov. 13, 1943, in New Haven, Conn. Following his discharge from the Navy in 1945, he worked at the local Chevrolet and International Harvester dealerships while living in Connecticut. They returned to Minnesota where he owned Aaberg Radio and TV in Benson, Warren's Texaco and Warren Labratories in Minneapolis. He then worked for KSTP-TV in St. Paul where he retired after 17 years as the master control engineer and they moved to Starbuck.
He was a member of the VFW Post in Starbuck.
He is survived by his wife; six children: Timothy (and Natalie) Aaberg of Winterset, Iowa, Nancy (and Tommy) Brooks of Las Vegas, Jonathan (and Gwen) Aaberg of Lakeville, Marjory (and Joel) Young of Magnolia, Texas, Karl (and Diane) Aaberg of Las Vegas and Glenda (and Steve) Kvale of Balaton; 17 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; siblings: Florence Swenson of Starbuck, Ruby (and Ervin) VanKempen of Starbuck, Bernice Cretelli of Glenwood and Norman Aaberg of Blaine.
He was preceded in death by four sisters and two brothers.
