STARBUCK -- Warren Baukol, 86, of Starbuck died Friday at Stevens Community Medical Center in Morris.
The service will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Starbuck. Burial will be at the church cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today at Starbuck Funeral Home in Starbuck and for one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday.
He was born Dec. 2, 1920, in New Prairie to Marcus and Betsy (Ronnie) Baukol. He grew up in Starbuck and graduated from Starbuck High School. He graduated from Luther College. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, where he was stationed in Iceland.
He married Agnes Gudmundsdottir on Dec. 12, 1944, in Reykjavik, Iceland. He was honorably discharged from the Army and they returned to the Starbuck area. He taught at the Veterans Agriculture School for several years and then farmed full-time. He started teaching at Starbuck High School in 1967 and taught for 20 years, and continued farming.
He was post commander at the Starbuck VFW and served on the board of directors for Mid-America Life Insurance for 40 years, and was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church.
He is survived by his wife; children: Marcus (and Debby) Baukol of Thousand Oaks, Calif., David (and Dianne) Baukol of Montevideo, Joan (and Roger) Wiley of Ramsey, Ruth (and Del) Grussing of Andover; 12 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and one brother: Peder (and Timmie) Baukol of Starbuck.
He was preceded in death by three brothers and an infant sister.
