WILLMAR -- The Ridgewater College Warriors cut off a two-game skid at the pass by shortening up their game.

Forget the three-pointers, directed head coach Bob Knutson. Take it too the ring.

The strategy paid off with a 97-73 win against Minnesota West on Wednesday night at the college.

By getting up close, the Warriors shot 60 percent to 35 percent for the visitors, who unleashed 31 three-pointers.

Five Warriors were in double figures: Casey Sussenguth 21, Shawn Neu 20, Cory Nietfeld 18, Ben Moser 16 and Derek Eisenschenk 10.

Sussenguth and Nietfeld each collected 11 rebounds and dished out four assists on tight inside passes. Moser had five helpers.

Ridgewater was coming off losses to Rochester and Minneapolis.

The win keeps the Warriors in third place in the MCAC.

The second rotation through the South begins Saturday at home against Riverland.

"I thought we played better defense tonight," said Knutson. "Our focus was rebounding and defense and getting inside. We've been shooting the threes too early."

The Warriors showed a 52-30 advantage in rebounds.

Stevie Statz, a 6-5 freshman forward, led the Bluejays with 17 points and six rebounds.
