Washington school sale falls through

Email News Alerts

WILLMAR -- The sale of the former Washington Learning Center building on Willmar Avenue is off.

The purchaser, Royal Investments Group of Spicer, had until Aug. 31 to decide whether to complete the sale, and they decided not to go ahead with it, Willmar Superintendent Jerry Kjergaard said Friday.

"I had hoped it would work out," Kjergaard said.

The School Board accepted an offer of $400,000 from Royal Investments in August.

The Washington building closed this summer as part of a school district restructuring.

Proceeds from the sale were to have been used to offset some of the cost of a seven-room kindergarten addition under construction at Roosevelt Elementary.

Now, the district will use most of its capital outlay funding to pay for the addition. The district has been able to build the addition without issuing bonds.
