Waska stymies Monte

MONTEVIDEO -- Montevideo owned the first half, but Minnewaska took control in the second half and beat the Thunder Hawks with a field goal in overtime, 17-14, in West Central South Conference football Wednesday.

The Lakers (4-3, 4-4) scored 14 points in the fourth quarter to tie the game 14-14.

Then Mike Whittemore kicked a 32-yard field goal in overtime to give the Lakers the win.

Montevideo (4-3, 5-3) ran all over Minnewaska in the first half, with Brock Ackerman scoring two touchdowns and posting 110 yards rushing at halftime.

Nic Molitor scored on a 25-yard pass play from Whittemore with 1:56 left and Whittemore ran in the two-point conversion to tie the game.

Montevideo had the first possession of overtime, but after two penalties failed to score. Minnewaska had negative yards in their first three plays of OT, then Whittemore kicked the game winner.
