JORDAN -- The Minnewaska girls golf team lead the state Class AA meet after the first day at Ridges at Sand Creek Wednesday.

The Lakers, four-time defending state champions, lead last year's runner-up Red Wing by 14 shots, 305-319.

Senior Sarah Roering, the 2008 individual champion, leads the field with a 71, shooting 37 on the front nine and 34 on the back nine. Senior Allie Ostrander is second with a 37-36-73.

Minnewaska has four golfers in the top 13, with junior Sam Falk in ninth with a 39-41-80 and sophomore Brianna Janu in a four-way tie for 10th with a 42-39-81. Seventh-grader Jenna Janu is 14th with a 42-40-82 and freshman Alex Guggisberg is tied for 31st with a 40-48-88.

The Lakers led by 41 strokes after the first day of competition last year, and won the team title by 67 shots.

Other area results include Litchfield junior Kristen Solbrack, who is tied for 43rd with a 46-45-91, Benson/KMS senior Lauren Alsaker in a tie for 47th with a 45-48-93 and BOLD sophomore Chloe Altmann in a tie for 57th with a 48-47-95.

Action begins at 7:30 a.m. today for the final round.

Class AA Boys

Luke Magnuson, a senior from Litchfield, shot a 71 and is tied for third place in the state Class AA boys golf meet. He shot a 35 on the front nine and a 36 on the back nine. He's two shots back of Jake Erickson, a senior from Holy Angels.

Yellow Medicine East junior Taylor Olson is tied for 11th with a 38-36-74, senior Tyler Jensvold of YME is tied for 27th with a 35-42-77 and Barett Freeland, a senior from New London-Spicer, shot a 41-39-80 and is tied for 47th place.

The final round will tee of starting at noon today.

Class A Girls

MACCRAY senior Trisha Kienitz is in a tie for fifth place after the first day of the Class A girls meet at Pebble Creek in Becker. She shot a 39-46-85, but is 10 shots behind Kelsey Ross, a junior from Osakis.

Carly Schmalz, a Buffalo Lake-Hector freshman is tied for 18th with a 45-48-93 with Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa junior Amy Knutson, who had a 48-45-93. Seventh-grader Peyton Miller of BBE shot a 45-50-95 and is tied for 29th. Baillee Hauser, a freshman from MACCRAY, shot a 53-54-107 and is tied for 68th.

The final round will tee off starting at 7:30 a.m. today.

Class A Boys

Zach Hauser, a junior from MACCRAY is tied for 10th place after the first day of the Class A boys meet at Pebble Creek in Becker. Hauser shot a 37-41-78 and is seven shots off the lead, held by Beau Hanson, a sophomore from Frazee.

Corey Tonn, a senior from BBE, carded a 41-45-86 and is tied for 47th.

The final round will tee off starting at 11:40 a.m. today.
