RENVILLE - Wayne Dallas Gigstad, age 75, of Renville, died after battling cancer for many years on Tuesday, June 4, 2013, at the RenVilla Nursing Home in Renville. Visitation will be held on Friday from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at the Dirks-Blem Funeral Home in Renville. A graveside service will follow the visitation on Friday at Fairview Cemetery in Renville. The Rev. Tom Evenson will officiate.

Wayne Dallas Gigstad was born in Renville, Minnesota, on October 11, 1937, to Oscar and Hilda (Jacobs) Gigstad. Wayne attended Renville Public Schools, graduating in 1955. Following graduation he worked for Knutson Plumbing and Heating in Granite Falls until he was drafted in the United States Army. While in the Army he served as a medic stationed mostly in Texas. Upon his discharge from the Army in 1966, he returned to Renville and worked for Hoberg’s Plumbing and Heating in Sacred Heart, doing new construction. He later worked for the Renville Hardware Store so he could take care of his mother. Wayne enjoyed hunting up north at a cabin near Talmoon, MN that he shared with his friends. Wayne also enjoyed working in his garden, where he gave much of his produce to friends, family, or anyone who could use it. Wayne spent much of his time assisting others giving many rides to doctors appointments, visiting and playing cards at the nursing home, and having coffee at the café.

Survivors include his two aunts, Fannie Jacobs Beyer of Bakersfield, CA and Florence Jacobs of Renville; his sister-in-law Mary Gigstad of Danube; his nieces and nephews: Kate (and Jim) George of Magnolia, MS, Lynn (and Theresa) Gigstad of Burnsville, MN, Jane (and Chris) Kennedy of Fairbanks, AK, Gerry (and Rita) Gigstad of Sacred Heart, Mary (and Mike) Jakel of Danube, David (and Kerri Gray) Gigstad of Bedford, TX; and numerous cousins, great nieces and nephews, and great – great nephews. He was preceded in death by his father in 1985 and his mother in 1997, and his only brother Gerald in 2001.
