Weather Service forecasts heavy snow over parts of Minnesota

WILLMAR -- Light snow is falling in Willmar, and the National Weather Service just issued a winter weather advisory of significant snowfall today and tonight.

The snow will expand across central Minnesota this afternoon, including in the Willmar area, and another area of precipitation is developing over southern Minnesota. The snow is expected to become heavy over parts of southern Minnesota this evening when blowing snow is also expected as northerly winds increase, the 1:43 p.m. advisory states.

A brief mix of freezing rain, sleet and snow will be possible across south central Minnesota this afternoon.
