Weather Service issues wind advisory to 7 p.m. for west central Minnesota

CHANHASSEN -- The National Weather Service has issued a wind advisory for southern and west central Minnesota until 7 p.m. this evening.

Strong south winds will increase to sustained speeds of 25 to 30 mph with gusts from 45 to 50 mph through the afternoon. A gust of 50 mph was already recorded at the Redwood Falls airport just before 8 a.m.

The advisory includes Alexandra, Willmar, Marshall, Mankato, Rochester, the southwestern side of the metro area and St. Cloud.

Drivers are vehicles, especially high profile vehicles, are urged to use extra caution. Small, loose items may be blown around.

The high temperature is expected to reach 87 in Willmar, with winds from 22 to 30 mph and gusts to 43 mph. Tonight's low is expected to be 63, with winds continuing between 17 and 22 mph.
