Prairie Woods ELC

The Prairie Woods Environmental Learning Center welcomes hikers on the grounds during daylight hours at no cost. Pets should be on a leash. Contact PWELC at 320-354-5894 or by e-mail at pwelc@co.kandiyohi.mn.us. For more information check the website at www.prairiewoodselc.org or call.

Sibley State Park

Interpretive Center open during the week; call 320-354-2002 for hours.

Sibley State park programs are on the weekends at the Interpretive Center and are led by the park naturalist or visiting expert. A vehicle permit is required to enter the park and they are available at the park office. For more information call 320-354-2002.

Bird watching walk: 8:30 to 10 a.m. Saturday; the naturalist leads a walk to various habitats to observe birds; binoculars and a bird book are recommended and some will be available for use.

Geocaching for Beginners: 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday; learn the basics about the rapidly growing hobby of geocaching, learn how it started, as well as a brief history on navigation. GPS units provided; limit of 20, age 8 or older and children must be accompanied by an adult; reservation required, register at the interpretive center or park office.

Loon, Minnesota's state bird: 10 a.m. Sunday; have you heard the "wail" of the loon and wished you knew more about Minnesota's state bird? Discover the calls of the loon, its habitat, food requirements and family life.
