BUFFALO -- Abbey Weiler won floor exercise with an eye-popping routine and the Willmar Cardinals finished second to Minnetonka at the 8-team Buffalo Invitational on Saturday.

"I think the whole gym was watching when Abbey performed," said coach Larry Selchow. "The whole choreography was just splendid."

Weiler scored 9.5 from the judges Cardinals teammate Cassie Johnson was runner-up at 9.10. Stephanie Thompson placed fourth with an 8.8.

Willmar also excelled on vault. Johnson was second, Weiler third and Thompson fourth.

The Cardinals got off to a bad start on beam failing to place anyone top 5.

"After beam, I was thinking this could be a long day," said Selchow.

Minnetonka took first with a 134.55 to Willmar's 134.55.

"I'd like to have seen the outcome if we could have hit beam," said the head coach.

Johnson and Weiler also finished top 5 all-around.
