SPICER - Wendell L. Halvorson, 76, of Spicer, Minnesota, died on Feb. 4, 2013, at his winter home in Surprise, Arizona. A memorial service will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, May 16th, 2013 at Faith Lutheran Church in Spicer. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the services at the church. Arrangements are with the Johnson Funeral Home in New London. www.hafh.org

Wendell Lauren Halvorson was born on August 6, 1936, in Litchfield, Minnesota, the son of Allan and Laura (Fossum) Halvorson. He was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in Spicer. He grew up in Spicer where he attended grade school and Willmar High School, graduating in 1954. He continued his education at the University of Minnesota where he graduated in 1958 with a Bachelor of Science degree from the Carlson School of Management. He was a member of Phi Kappa Psi fraternity. On June 19, 1958, Wendell was united in marriage to Barbara Anderson at Mount Olivet Lutheran Church in Minneapolis. He worked as a financial advisor for IDS and later American Express Financial Advisors for 35 years before retiring in 1998. They made their home in Richfield until 1985 when they moved to Eden Prairie where they resided until moving to their lake home on Green Lake in Spicer in 1998. They also wintered in Surprise, Arizona.

Wendell was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Spicer and a long time member of Mount Olivet Lutheran Church in Minneapolis. He was also an avid golfer and member of Little Crow Country Club, and he served on the Green Lake Property Owners Association board.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Barbara; daughter, Jenifer Kinney (Hugh) and son, Joel Halvorson (Becky); and four grandchildren: Matthew Kinney, Lauren Kinney, Olivia Halvorson, and Benjamin Halvorson.

Wendell is preceded in death by his parents and brother, Gary Halvorson.
