WILLMAR — White-out conditions are being reported by drivers in and around Willmar this afternoon.

Kandiyohi County pulled its plows at 3 p.m. due to adverse weather conditions and plows won’t be back out until 5:30 a.m. Tuesday.

Minnesota Department of Transportation plows are still out this afternoon, but driving conditions are not good.

MnDOT District 8 Public Affairs Coordinator TJ Melcher said there are no plans currently to issue a “no travel” advisory, but most of the roads in the area are rated as “difficult” or “hazardous” driving conditions.

“The road condition itself is pretty good, it’s the visibility,” he said.

“ ... The driving conditions are tough. Just because the road is not closed … doesn’t mean that it’s without risk," Melcher said. "Motorists really have to exercise some personal responsibility and decide if their travel is essential or not.”

If a person must travel, have a winter survival kit, allow extra time, and have no distractions — no texting — and no cruise control, Melcher added.
