Whitecaps foil walleye opener

Email

A cold wind blew hard — up to 30 mph — all Saturday out of the northwest chasing anglers to sheltered bays and the leeward side of lakes in Kandiyohi County on the 2013 walleye opener. “So windy it’s hard to fish out there,” commented one fisherman. Shannon Visser, right, of Bird Island is about to set out from the public access on Lake Elizabeth, south of Atwater, at 10:30 a.m. Bryan Seiffert, left, of Coon Rapids and his brother, Darrell Seiffert, of Litchfield have just come in after 4 hours on the lake with the only strike a smallmouth bass. The blustery conditions are expected to ease by Sunday.
