Wilbert Riederer Nov. 6, 1920 - Sept. 23, 2013

BIRD ISLAND - Wilbert Riederer, age 92, of Bird Island died Monday, September 23, 2013 at the RenVilla Nursing Home in Renville. Mass of Christian Burial is Friday 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Bird Island with Rev. George Schmit as celebrant. Burial is in the church cemetery. Visitation is Thursday 5-7 p.m. with a 6:45 p.m. prayer service at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Bird Island. Visitation continues Friday at the church for one hour prior to the service. Arrangements are with Dirks-Blem Funeral Service of Bird Island.

Wilbert "Willie" Riederer was born November 6, 1920 in Leavenworth, MN to Leo and Mathilda (Platz) Riederer. He attended school in Mulligan Township. Willie was united in marriage to Agnes Turbes on November 4, 1941 and they were blessed with three children. Willie and Ag lived and farmed at rural Bird Island. Besides farming he drove school bus for 35 years, worked for a local veterinarian, and also a few years for Jacobs Construction. For many years Willie and Ag operated an upholstery business. In 1982 they moved into town and Willie continued to farm. Willie truly loved decorating for the Christmas season. He played Santa for his family and the community for many years and after he started Christmas Lane his neighbors joined in with their own decorating. Willie also enjoyed baseball and his family fondly remembers his gift of visiting with everybody.

Willie is survived by his three children: Becky (and John) Strukel of Side Lake, Laura Willegalle of St. Cloud, and Les (and Jane) Riederer of Bird Island; his five grandchildren: Mike (and Corie) Strukel of Prior Lake, Julie (and Doug) Host of Brainerd, Todd Willegalle (and Brandi Schlick) of Sartell, Amy (and James) Garza of Danube, and Tracy Riederer (and Greg Hammer) of Blaine; his four great-grandchildren: Alex, Jenna and Erin Host and McKenna Hammer; his brother, Brother Cletus Riederer of Cincinnati, OH; his sisters: Marie (and Arnie) Hillesheim of Springfield and Marlene (and Tom) Johnson of New Ulm; and he is also survived by his neighborhood family. Willie was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Agnes on June 10, 2013; his son-in-law Dick Willegalle; his sister Alyce Sprenger; and his four brothers: Jim Riederer, Eugene Riederer, Gerry Riederer, and Leonard Riederer.
