Wilbur R. 'Bill' Lane Nov. 8, 1913 - Dec. 28, 2008
WILLMAR -- Wilbur R. "Bill" Lane, 95, of Willmar, died Sunday at Bethesda PleasantView Nursing Home in Willmar.
A joint service for Wilbur and his son, Gordon W. Lane, will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Willmar. Burial will be in Cloverleaf Memorial Park Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today at Peterson Brothers Funeral Home and for one hour prior to the services at the church.
He was born Nov. 8, 1913, in Bismarck, N.D., to Edgar and Rose (Doerhofer) Lane. They moved to the Raymond area and he attended Sunnyside School.
He married Eleanor Boettcher on April 15, 1934. They lived and farmed near Raymond until they moved to Willmar in 1958. They owned and operated the Willmar Taxi Service for about seven years and then worked as custodians for the Bowladrome, Quick Stop Drive-In, Willmar Golf Club and the Eagles Lodge before retiring.
He was a former member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Raymond, a member of the Redeemer Lutheran Church and a Golden Age member of the Willmar Eagles Club.
He is survived by three sons: Luverne (and special friend Shirley Labelle) of Apache Junction, Ariz., Gary (and Lola) Lane of Willmar and Bruce Lane of Willmar; daughter-in-law: Ellen Lane of Willmar; 14 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
His son, Gordon, died one day after him.
He was preceded in death by his wife; a daughter-in-law; two grandsons; four sisters and two brothers.
