Wild lose in shootout in Finland

Andrew Brunette scored on a power play in the first period to give the Minnesota Wild the game's first goal, but the Carolina Hurricanes came back to beat win, 2-1 in a shootout today in Helsinki.

Finnish-born Tuomo Ruuto scored the game-tying goal in the second period for Carolina (2-0).

The Wild (0-1-1) leave Finland with one point to open the season.

Goaltender Niklas Backstrom made 36 saves for Minnesota, while Cam Ward had 41 for the Hurricanes.
