Wild pitch dooms Stingers at Waterloo
WATERLOO, Iowa — Colin Poche uncorked a wild pitch with one out in the eighth inning that brought in the go-ahead run in the Waterloo Bucks’ 5-4 win over the Willmar Stingers on Friday at Riverfront Stadium.
Marcos Calderon smacked a one-out double off losing pitcher Jack Hegarty and, after Poche relieved Hegarty, stole third.
On the sixth pitch to Will Sparks, Poche’s wild pitch, which was also ball four to Sparks, brought Calderon home.
All of Willmar’s runs came off winning pitcher Landon Simpson.
Simpson gave up three in the fourth inning on a wild pitch and a Danny Brennan two-run double.
Willmar added one more in the fourth on a fielder’s choice.
The Stingers are now 11-14 in the second half in the Northwoods League North Division and 34-26 overall.
They play 5:05 p.m. today at Waterloo.
