William C. Mitteness Dec. 25, 1934 - July 31, 2009
BENSON -- William Charles "Bill" Mitteness, 74, of Benson died Friday at the VA Medical Center in Minneapolis.
The service will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Francis Catholic Church in Benson. Burial will be in the St. Bridget's Catholic Church Cemetery in De Graff.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. today at the church with a parish prayer service at 7 p.m. and one hour prior to the service at the church. Arrangements are with Zniewski Funeral Home in Benson.
He was born Dec. 25, 1934 in Holloway to Severt and Clarissa (Hughes) Mitteness. He attended school in Holloway. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1952 to 1957. He was stationed in Germany as a radio operator. Following his discharge, he returned home and worked for his father in the road business. He continued his education at St. Cloud State and graduated with a bachelor of arts degree in 1962.
He married Sharon Hendrickson on Feb. 27, 1960, in St. Cloud. He began working as a sales representative for Gould Battery Co. in St. Paul in 1962 and later moved to Baton Rouge, La., to become manager of a store. He started working for S & H Green Stamp Co. as a sales rep in 1964 in New Orleans and worked there until 1974. They moved back to Minnesota and lived in Anoka where he worked for Pager Co. in St. Paul. He took at job with the Anoka Hennepin School District where worked until retiring in 1997. They moved to Benson.
He was a member of AA for 35 years, a Bible study club and delivered Meals on Wheels.
Bill is survived by his wife; three children: Chris (and Mary) Mitteness of Andover, Greg Mitteness of Blaine and Scott (and Sandy) Mitteness of Ramsey; and four grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his daughter: Julie Ann Mitteness; one sister; and two brothers.
