William Donald Tayler, Sr.

Feb. 9, 1920 - July 19, 2013

William was born in Crookston, Minnesota on Feb. 9, 1920 to Sidney and Mary Tayler. He passed away on Friday July 19, 2013.

He married Madalyn Birkemeyer in San Francisco, California on September 19, 1944.

In the last years of his life, his youngest daughter, Bonnie, elected to be responsible for his care.

Bill loved to hunt with his children and other family members. The entire family enjoyed searching the woods for puffball mushrooms. He was an excellent cook. His specialties were barbequed chicken and shish kabob.

Over the years he enjoyed helping his wife care for 21 foster children.

He was a passionate supporter of the Kandiyohi County DFL and spent many hours erecting campaign signs for the candidates he believed in. He was honored to have had Hubert Humphrey and Walter Mondale visit their home during their campaigns.

Bill was an avid baseball and football fan, and enjoyed his childrens' and grandchildrens' games.

He also enjoyed antique car shows. He and his wife enjoyed setting up their annual Christmas display.

He loved animals and had many wonderful dogs and a cat. He enjoyed helping care for homeless dogs before the Kandiyohi County Humane Society began.

He and Madalyn enjoyed dancing to big name bands, and attending many of his Navy reunions. He took the family on many camping vacations.

William is survived by his wife Madalyn Tayler, his children, William A. Tayler, Barry Tayler, Robin Tayler, Bonnie (Mark)Nelson, Kelly (Nikki) Tayler, seven grandchildren, ten great grandchildren, and his sister Elizabeth Bonham. He was preceded in death by his parents, an only brother Arthur, and an infant daughter and son.

His family will cherish the memories he helped create. May his good deeds shine like the bright Christmas lights he loved.
