WILLMAR -- William Oscar "Bill" Halsey, 77, of Willmar, died May 29 at Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar.
The graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery. Military honors will be provided by Austin F. Hanscom American Legion Post 167 of Willmar.
Arrangements are with the Peterson Brothers Funeral Home in Willmar. Memorials are preferred to the American Diabetes Association.
He was born Sept. 9, 1931, in Willmar to Oscar and Kathleen (Hutchins) Halsey. He grew up in Willmar and graduated from Willmar High School. He joined the Army, serving in Korea from 1947 to 1951. After his discharge he joined the Air Force and was stationed in Europe from 1952 to 1955. He then attended college in St. Cloud.
He married Shirley Ann Isdahl on Oct. 18, 1957, in Northwood, Iowa. They moved to southern California in 1959, and he graduated from Long Beach State University. He worked as a juvenile probation officer with the Orange County Probation Department until he retired. They moved to Arizona. In 2007 after his wife's death, he returned to Willmar, moving to Bethesda Homes in March.
He is survived by brothers: Gerald (and Carol) Halsey of Allenspark, Colo., and Larry (and Linda) Halsey of Colorado Springs, Colo.; and a sister: Jane (and Michael) Christensen of San Marco, Calif.
He was preceded in death by his wife; a son: Brook Halsey on Nov. 29, 1997; and one brother.
