William Kidd Oct. 2, 1929 - Sept. 27, 2009
NEW LONDON -- William Scott "Bill" Kidd, 79, of New London died Sunday at Park Nicollet Methodist Hospital in St. Louis Park.
The service will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Hope Presbyterian Church in Spicer.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Johnson Funeral Home in New London and for one hour prior to the service at the church. Memorials are preferred to Rice Hospice or Hope Presbyterian Church.
He was born Oct. 2, 1929, in Austin to Harry and Genevieve (Scott) Kidd. He grew up in Grand Meadow and Eyota and graduated from Eyota in 1947.
He married Shirley Erickson on Jan. 13, 1951, in Windom. He joined the U.S. Navy and served as a naval aviator for 21 years retiring in 1972 as a lieutenant commander. They moved to New London and he worked as a rural mail carrier until he retired in 2002.
He was a member of Hope Presbyterian Church in Spicer where he served as a deacon, was a member of church session and sang in the church choir for 34 years. He served as scoutmaster when his sons were active in scouting and recently had been volunteering at Rice Hospice and his church.
He is survived by his wife; children: Michael (and Bonnie) Kidd of Fairfax Station, Va., Steven (and Wendy) Kidd of Willmar, James (and Shawn) Kidd of Clontarf and Marjorie (and Gregory) Johnson of Grafton, N.D.
He was preceded in death by one sister.
