William M. McDaniel July 25, 1916 - Nov. 16, 2008
BENSON -- William "Bill" Maywood McDaniel, 92, of Benson, died Sunday at Our House Senior Living Center in Chippewa Falls, Wis.
The service will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Pilgrim Congregational United Church of Christ in Benson. Burial will be in Benson City Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. today at Zniewski Funeral Home in Benson and for one hour prior to the service at the church. Memorials preferred to the Prairie Five Food Shelf or the Swift County Benson Hospital.
He was born July 25, 1916, in Benson to Leith and Clara (Peterson) McDaniel. He attended school through the eighth grade. He served his country during World War II in the U.S. Army, from 1942 to 1945 and was involved in campaigns in New Guinea, the Southern Philippines and Luzon.
He married Charline Ellison on May 5, 1946, in Murdock. They lived in rural Benson and he worked at Benson Produce and the Swift County Highway Department. He retired from the county in 1979. He was a member of the Benson VFW Post 1403.
He is survived by his sons: Gary McDaniel (and special friend Marjorie Nelson) of Prior Lake, Bradley (and Jackie) McDaniel of Holcombe, Wis.; and one grandson.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife in 1996; and his stepfather: Victor Nelson.
