WILLMAR -- The public policy committee of the Willmar Lakes Area Chamber of Commerce has organized election and campaign materials for potential candidates running for positions on the Willmar City Council, School Board and Kandiyohi County Board of Commissioners.
Filings open May 15 and close June 1.
The chamber also will host a lunch this month, featuring a retired elected official speaking about the experience of being in office and being a business person.
The lunch is from noon to 1:30 p.m. April 29 at the chamber office.
"This is an attempt by the chamber to assist and encourage individuals from the community who are possibly interested in seeking election to the city, school or county government and to provide them with the essential information about the role of each of the elected offices," said Dave Baker, chairman of the public policy committee election workshop.
The information is organization from the city, school and county administrators to help potential candidates prepare for commonly asked questions.
"The chamber takes an active interest in the election process," said Nathan
Streed, committee co-chair. "It is our hope that by providing these informational tools, we will produce an informed candidate and provide the community with candidates who understand their respective job descriptions for public office."
Potential candidates can receive copies of the informational material by calling the chamber office at 235-0300.
Reservations are requested for attending the informational lunch on April 29. Call the chamber office or e-mail the chamber at email@example.com. Space is limited, so candidates are urged to register soon.
