The Cardinals (3-3) lost to West Fargo, N.D., 12-5 and than defeated Lac qui Parle Valley 11-2 in the third-place game.

Marshall (3-2) beat West Fargo 7-1 in the title game.

Willmar coach Brad Dean got to test the depth of his pitching staff. Six Cardinals threw, but of the three starters used earlier in the week -- Jordan Smith, Nathaniel Swoyer and Scott Skaalerud -- only Swoyer pitched and that was for only one inning.

The North Dakotans unloaded for 13 hits and were also helped out by four Willmar errors. Jared Reber had a bases-loaded triple in a five-run fifth.
