WILLMAR -- The Willmar Cardinals closed out the 2009 portion of their schedule in impressive fashion.

Monday night, on their home floor for Parent's Night, the Cardinals put together seven pins and a pair of forfeits to vanquish Sartell 60-6 in a Central Lakes dual meet.

It was the first win for Willmar (1-2, 1-2), which was coming off an eighth-place finish at the huge (31 team) Cass Lake-Bena Invitational over the weekend.

"Our kids are doing a good job," said Casey Johnson, who is in his third winter heading up the Willmar program. "We're working hard and we're young."

Sartell is very young, too. That allowed Johnson to debut junior high wrestlers Austin Miley and Zach Lueders against opponents their own age and each responded with a pin.

Nate Mittag, a freshman, led off with a pin at 103 pounds.

Adam Fagerstrom at 140, Eugene Stepan at 160, Taylor Neumann at 189 and C.J. Barkley at heavyweight all won via a first- or second-period fall.

Martin Cabrera picked up a 9-4 win at 171 and while Coty Milhausen nipped Mike Sorensen 6-5 a well-wrestled match at 152.

Willmar is off until the Montevideo Invitational on Jan. 3.
