ALEXANDRIA -- After ringing up 13 hits on Monday night, the Willmar Stinger bats were only a whisper in the high-heat and hot wind that blew across Knute Nelson Memorial Park on Tuesday evening.

Two Beetles' pitchers silenced the Stingers on six hits in a 3-1 victory Tuesday after Willmar won on Monday 5-3.

The Stin-gers' lone run came in the second inning a solo home run by Sean Dwyer, his first of the young season.

Rob Elliott made the only other noise in the Stingers' order. Breaking out of a slump to start the season, the left fielder from the Chicago suburb of Naperville collected three hits in four trips to the plate.

Stingers' starter Thomas Taylor got roughed up out of the gate.

The Beetles used doubles by Nick Gumm and Chris Fritts and a single by Tanner Vavra to score twice.

After that Thomas was solid. Chris Gonzales threw the last two innings.

For the second straight evening, the temperature under full sun was over 90 degrees at first pitch. The official temperature in Alexandria was reported at 94 degrees at 7 p.m. The same two teams meet again tonight at 7:05 p.m., but this time in Willmar.
