Willmar forecast calls for up to a foot of snow
Storm expected to move across west central Minnesota through two days
WILLMAR — The National Weather Service forecast for Willmar calls for another 3 to 5 inches of snow to fall today. The chance for snow showers continues into Friday and finally ends Friday evening.
Snowfall accumulations of 8 to 12 inches are expected in an area from Redwood Falls to St. Cloud and the Twin Cities metro area, with higher snowfall totals in areas of “thunder snow,” isolated thunderstorms within the weather system.
The snowfall could be as much as 1 inch per hour, with the thunderstorms generating 2 inches or more per hour.
The National Weather Service forecasters expect the line between areas that receive snow and areas that get a mix of freezing rain, sleet and snow to be from Fairmont to the southeastern Twin Cities and on to Rice Lake, Wis.
The Winter Storm Warning continues until 7 p.m. tonight. The heavy precipitation and high winds are expected to make travel difficult.
According to the local Willmar forecast, the high temperature is expected to be 32 today, with a 20 mph wind gusting to 30 mph from the northeast. Winds will calm to 10 to 15 mph tonight.
