Willmar forecast: Winter storm watch this PM, up to 6 inches of snow tonight

WILLMAR — The weather rollercoaster is going to keep rolling along today with a slight chance of snow and freezing rain, with a high temperature of 33 degrees, after noon today in Willmar.

The National Weather Service says the snow and freezing rain will give way to snow around 9 p.m. with 2 to 4 inches of snow expected overnight into Tuesday in Willmar.

There is a winter storm watch in effect at 3 p.m. today, with forecasters expecting some ice accumulation and up to six inches of snow for the region. The watch includes Stevens, Pope, Lac qui Parle, Swift, Chippewa, Kandiyohi and Yellow Medicine counties.

Tuesday’s high temperature in Willmar is expected to be around 30 degrees, with winds from 8 to 11 mph.

The southern two-thirds of the state of Minnesota is in a dense fog warning until noon today, with advisories for motorists that visibilities are less than a quarter mile and that temperatures near the freezing mark could may untreated road surfaces slippery due to icing.

According to the State Department of Transportation, road conditions in the region are fair, with wet patches, icy patches and fog conditions.
