Willmar gets best of Hutch

HUTCHINSON -- Willmar used strong pitching performances from Dean Stier and Nathanial Swoyer together with an eight-hit attack to clip Hutchinson 4-2 in non-conference baseball action on Friday afternoon.

Stier went the first five innings for the win. He gave up four hits and an earned run while walking two and striking out two.

Swoyer allowed three hits and an unearned run in two innings of relief.

Gabe Amon singled in Stier, who had walked and stole second, in the top of the second inning to tie the game 1-1. Andrew Bangen then drove in Austin Adamson, who also had singled and stole second, for a 2-1 Willmar lead in the third inning.

The Cardinals (3-10) built the lead to 4-1 after back-to-back singles by Bangen and Jake Rambow were followed by a Tiger error to load the bases. Jake Damhof's two-out single brought in two runs.

Willmar plays five games in four days starting Monday.
