Willmar girls lose to Apollo in soccer

Apollo's speed produced three first-half goals and the Eagles made them stand up for a 3-1 win over the Willmar Cardinals on Saturday in Central Lakes Conference girls soccer.

Willmar got one back in the second half on a goal by Karis Rogers at 53:46.

Apollo (10-2, 12-4) had twice as many chances at the Cardinals, who finish their pre-playoff schedule 5-7-1 in the CLC and 8-8-2 overall.

Willmar will host a Section 2A game on Thursday, playing either New Ulm or St. Peter at 4 p.m.

Chelsey Wierschem made 14 stops against the Eagles and got help with six defensive saves.
