Willmar high school grad killed in motorcycle accident
WILLMAR –– A 2011 Willmar High School graduate was killed Thursday in a motorcycle accident in Wright County
According to a notice from the Peterson Brothers Funeral Home, Robert Brau, 21, died as a result of injuries from an accident near Montrose.
The Minnesota State Patrol has not released the names of those involved in a fatal crash that happened at 9:45 a.m. on Thursday, but the preliminary report said an east-bound car driven by a 17-year old female crossed the center line of U.S. Highway 12 and struck a motorcycle that was going west on Highway 12.
The motorcycle driver was killed at the scene of the accident on Highway 12 near Zephyr Avenue in Montrose, according to the State Patrol.
Brau, who was a music major at the University of Minnesota, is the son of Terry and Donna Brau.
Terry Brau has been the band instructor at Willmar High School for 34 years.
High School Principal Paul Schmitz said Robert Brau was an exceptional student who excelled in all academic areas and was outstanding musician in band and choir.
Schmitz said news of Brau’s death has been devastating.
“We’re at a loss of words to describe the grief we’re feeling for the family,” he said.
An email sent to members of Vinje Lutheran Church in Willmar shared news of Brau’s death.
Donna Brau is the director of Loving Arms Child Care Center at the church, where Terry Brau also regularly provides Sunday morning music.
The email from the church said that Robert Brau was killed while returning to Willmar from Minneapolis.
Funeral arrangements are pending with the Peterson Brothers Funeral Home of Willmar.
According to the State Patrol, charges may be filed against the driver of the car.
