Willmar man gets jail, probation for domestic incident

WILLMAR -- Christopher Gerald Wallace, 38, of Willmar, was sentenced Friday to five years of probation, a $500 fine and 99 days in jail on a felony charge of terroristic threats for threatening the life of a woman during a domestic incident on May 14.

As part of his sentence handed down in Kandiyohi County District Court, Wallace was given credit for 62 days already served and ordered to complete a chemical dependency evaluation and a batterer's intervention program. He was also ordered to have no contact with the victim and refrain from alcohol and drug use.

As part of a plea agreement, a felony charge of second-degree assault and a misdemeanor charge of domestic assault were dismissed.

The charges were filed after Willmar police were called to an apartment building on a report of a domestic. A woman at the scene reported she and Wallace had been arguing, which she described as a common occurrence between them.

The woman reported Wallace threatened her with a knife and with a computer cord. She said he had also pushed over a chair she was sitting in so blocked her way when she attempted to leave the apartment.

When questioned, Wallace denied having a knife and said someone had stolen his knife. He attempted to look through a bag. He did not stop when ordered to by officers and was subsequently handcuffed following a short struggle.

Officers were given permission to search the apartment and located a knife -- matching the description given by the woman -- near the area where Wallace had been looking through the bag.

Officers were also able to locate the computer cord.

Neighbors in the building reported they heard Wallace yelling at the woman and one reported he heard him say he wanted to the kill her.
