Willmar man wins $50K on Powerball
WILLMAR -- A Willmar man has won $50,000 playing Powerball in the Minnesota State Lottery.
According to a news release from the State Lottery, David Deppa bought his winning ticket in Cambridge where he was visiting his son.
He bought give sets of numbers with the Power Play multiplier for the Wednesday drawing.
He stopped at a Willmar store to buy ice cream and check his numbers. The store informed him that it could not pay the prize -- a $10,000 winner because he had four of the five numbers matching plus matching the Powerball, and a Power Play multiplier of five, for a $50,000 overall prize.
Deppa claimed the prize Friday.
Powerball is a multi-state lotto game played by selecting five numbers from 1 to 59 and a Powerball number from 1 to 39.
The Power Play option is an additional cost and multiplies any prizes short of the jackpot up to five times.
