Willmar, Minn., area chamber to host meeting for prospective candidates for office
WILLMAR -- The public policy committee of the Willmar Lakes Area Chamber of Commerce has organized election and campaign materials for persons interested in campaigning for city council, school board and Kandiyohi County commissioner positions.
A meeting also has been scheduled for April 30 for potential candidates to gain more information about elected office and running for office.
Filings for the 2012 election open May 22 and close June 5. There are 19 open positions this year on city councils, school boards and county board in Willmar, New London, Spicer and Kandiyohi County.
Nathan Streed, chairman of the public policy committee election workshop, said it's an effort by the Chamber to help and encourage individuals from the community who are interested in running for local office and to provide them with information about the role of each of the elected offices.
"It is our hope that by providing these informational tools, we will produce an informed candidate and provide the community with candidates who understand their respective job descriptions for public office," he said.
To receive a copy of the materials, call the Chamber office at 235-0300. The informational meeting is set for noon to 1:30 p.m. April 30 at the Chamber office and will feature a retired elected official discussing the experience of being an elected official and business person.
RSVPs are requested for the lunch by calling the Chamber at 235-0300 or emailing email@example.com.
