Willmar, Minn., City Council to meet Monday
WILLMAR — The Willmar City Council will meet at 7 p.m. Monday in the council chambers at the Willmar Municipal Utilities building.
A public hearing is scheduled for 7:02 p.m. regarding the proposed tax abatement for Torgerson Properties. The 10-year abatement is for the company’s proposed hotel and conference center renovation project. The work includes adding a third story to the current two-story Comfort Inn, plus completely renovating the current rooms and public spaces, and rebranding the hotel as a Holiday Inn Express and Suites, plus renovating the current Holiday Inn and rebranding that hotel as a Best Western Plus. In addition, the Green Mill restaurant would be moved and renovated and another restaurant, Hurricane Grill & Wings, would be added to the facility.
Finally, the project also includes renovations of the Willmar Conference Center, plus improvements to the grounds and parking lots of the facility.
The estimated cost of the tax abatement is $230,000 over the proposed 10-year period.
The agenda also includes taking action on amending the project financing for the western interceptor sewer project, adding a 2,400-foot sewer line from an aging wastewater lift station at the old airport terminal building to the western interceptor line. The line will serve the new industrial park area begin developed at the old airport site.
The council is also expected to take action on the 2013 street projects and assessments and on the agreement with Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway regarding the quiet zone at the Willmar Avenue train crossing.
