Willmar, Minn., man gets six years for selling cocaine

WILLMAR — Sammy Sandoval Jr., 24, of Willmar, was sentenced Monday to 74 months in prison on a first-degree drug sale charge for selling 15.3 grams of cocaine to a Brown-Lyon-Redwood County Drug Task Force agent and a task force informant on June 29, 2011, in southern Kandiyohi County.
As part of his sentence handed down by District Judge Donald M. Spilseth in Kandiyohi County District Court, Sandoval was ordered to pay a $50 fine and $600 in restitution, plus supply a DNA sample. He was given credit for 19 days served in custody.
Sandoval had entered a guilty plea to the charge in December and, as part of a plea agreement, received the “bottom of the box” sentence. The guideline sentence for the crime is 86 months in prison, with a guideline range of 74 to 103 months.
The charge was filed after the informant and an agent met Sandoval at Harry’s Corner, south of Willmar, and completed the drug deal in a vehicle with Sandoval weighing the drugs and giving the cocaine to the agent in return for $600.
The drugs were field-tested and found to be cocaine.
